Precautions
Anaphylactic reactions
Penicillin therapy, including amoxicillin, can cause serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions. The incidence of anaphylaxis following parenteral therapy is higher, but there have been cases involving patients who have taken oral penicillins. Penicillin hypersensitivity and/or susceptibility to multiple allergens increase one's risk of experiencing these reactions. In cases of penicillin hypersensitivity, individuals treated with cephalosporins experienced severe reactions. Getting a complete history of previous reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, or other allergens should be done before beginning treatment with amoxil.
