ZnO belongs to the II-VI semiconductor group.
Technical Specifications
How does it work:
A zinc oxide barrier forms on top of the skin to protect the area from moisture and irritants. Topical zinc oxide comes in a variety of forms, including cream, powder, ointment, paste, and spray solution. Sunscreen products also contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
Applications Or where it is used:
Minor skin irritations such as diaper rash, cuts, and burns are treated with zinc oxide. A sunscreen product can be used in some cases.
Manufacturing process:
A molten zinc electrode is vaporized at 910°C in an indirect process. ZnO is formed upon direct contact with airborne oxygen and zinc vapour. A cooling duct transports the zinc oxide particles, which are collected in a bag filter station.
Side effects:
Allergic reactions to this drug are rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling, trouble breathing or dizziness.
